Anyone else having programs hang after installing Sierra?

I just installed Sierra on a mid 2012 iMac. Many programs hang after installing Sierra, even native Apple applications. Anyone else having similar issues? Any possible solutions?

Hi guitarno,


Thanks for upgrading your iMac to macOS Sierra! I understand that your Mac is performing slower than it did previous to the upgrade. You can try starting your Mac up into Safe Mode.

What is safe mode?
Safe mode (sometimes called safe boot) is a way to start up your Mac so that it performs certain checks, and prevents some software from automatically loading or opening. Starting your Mac in safe mode does the following:
Verifies your startup disk, and attempts to repair directory issues if needed
Loads only required kernel extensions
Prevents Startup Items and Login Items from opening automatically
Disables user-installed fonts
Deletes font caches, Kernel cache and other system cache files
Together, these changes can help resolve or isolate issues related to your startup disk.


Try safe mode if your Mac doesn‘t finish starting up



After successfully booting up into safe mode, please check to see if you have any login or start up items. These are applications that run as soon as you power on your Mac and continue to run in the background which can slow up your Mac's performance.

You can also verify that your Mac has enough disk space to run OS Sierra smoothly. In macOS Sierra, it's easier than ever to free up disk space! Have a look at this link. ​System Information for Mac: Optimize storage on your Mac
